How much do ACA agents earn per member?
ACA health insurance commissions are typically paid on a per member per month (PMPM) basis. Rates vary by carrier and state but usually range between $20 and $30 PMPM for new members. Some carriers pay reduced or no commissions for renewals, while others maintain the same PMPM rate.
Can I write business before receiving appointment confirmation?

Do terminated or non-effectuated members count toward commissions?
No — commissions are paid only on effectuated members, meaning the member must pay their first premium and remain active. Non-effectuated and terminated members do not generate PMPM payouts, and retroactive cancellations may result in chargebacks.
Broker Compensation Disclosures
On December 27, 2020, The Consolidated Appropriations Act was signed into law which, in part, mandates greater transparency to health care cost information, including broker compensation. All agents and brokers are now required to disclose direct (eg., commission) and indirect (eg., bonus contests) compensation information to consumers. The total amount of compensation must be disclosed verbally prior to the consumer finalizing plan selection. In most cases, the information will also be communicated by the insurance carrier in the consumer’s Welcome Kit.
