Retaining Talent In Today’s Workforce Requires New Expectations.

Let’s look at the role and sorts of rewards available to employees in terms of keeping talent.

Employees are reevaluating their relationship with their jobs, shifting away from transactional interactions with their employers and redefining what they expect in the workplace as the Great Resignation continues.

Although remote work will undoubtedly continue in some form for years to come, it will not be the pandemic’s only lasting influence. Employers are now required to rethink benefits in a more comprehensive manner, and compensation alone is no longer sufficient.

Employee benefit forecasts for 2022 and beyond

Employees’ physical and mental health is deteriorating due to factors such as decreased physical activity, increased food and alcohol consumption, less interaction with coworkers, and stress associated with childcare management, according to a study published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (JOEM).

This implies that the types of health care benefits that employees desire — and now expect — from their jobs are expanding to include more comprehensive primary care, mental and behavioral health therapies, and other services. As a result, let’s take a closer look at the importance of employee perks and the many sorts of incentives available in terms of retaining talent.

Company culture increases when benefits are improved.

There has been no shortage of reports that firms in a variety of industries are having difficulty finding qualified employees, as well as retaining them. This has been linked in recent months to vaccination requirements, a lack of childcare choices, burnout, early retirement, and a desire among some to change careers.

While many businesses expected the talent pool to improve as unemployment benefits expired in September 2021, this has not been the case.

According to the latest Job Opportunities and Labor Turnover data from the Labor Department, there were 11.5 million job openings as of March 2022, with 6.3 million workers leaving their jobs.

Companies are allocating a record-high 3.9 percent of their budgets for raises in 2022, according to recent Conference Board statistics, implying more efforts to retain staff in the coming year. However, as previously stated, pay isn’t enough; benefits and culture have grown increasingly important.

As per research, companies that devote time and money to reducing obstacles and promoting DEI programs are 2.6 times more likely to promote employee engagement and retention. This is because, among other things, they are more likely to foster a sense of belonging and connection among employees.

Implementing both short-term and long-term plans

You can ensure that wellness is at the heart of your corporate culture by delivering the services your employees desire and need.

We now purchase online, view movies online, and even consult doctors online. The pandemic accelerated a decades-long trend toward digitization, propelling us into a tech-centric future.

While the mix of digital and in-person treatment reverted to a 70/30 split in 2021, with the majority of care returning to in-person, behavioral health and wellness coaching continue to have a high number of virtual visits. According to a research released by GoodRx and the American Telemedicine Association in November 2021, more than 60% of respondents anticipated to use a hybrid style of care in the future, combining telemedicine and in-person appointments.

Many people have focused on mental health, as well as addressing socioeconomic factors and ensuring that people, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, identity, or background, have access to care that meets their needs.

According to ASPE, those with Medicaid (29.3%) and Medicare (27.4%), Black people (26.8%), and those earning less than $25,000 (26.7%) had the highest rates of telehealth visits, indicating that accessible telehealth services provide greater opportunity for care to those in need.

Companies can take immediate efforts to obtain “fast wins” in terms of benefit perception to help with recruitment and retention, but it will also be necessary to plan improvements for the future to increase satisfaction.

A company that implemented training to provide guidelines on how to conduct talks about mental wellbeing, stress, or burnout at work was a terrific example of a rapid success we noticed. The purpose was to improve conversational fluency around those topics. It’s simple to add virtual mental health services to a plan to help support this goal.

Longer future, many businesses may choose to remain distant, or at the very least adopt a mixed approach. Through both physical and digital health care alternatives, it will be critical to evolve to meet employees where they are, at times that are convenient for them, and at their comfort levels.

It’s crucial to remember that no two employees will have the same needs, so creating a culture that accommodates a wide range of needs and desires is essential. Companies can better position themselves for success by developing a personalized approach to preventative care—from exercise to diet and stress management.

Company culture in the future

Companies may more easily demonstrate how they regard their employees as individuals, not just labor, and that leadership is there to encourage them to live healthier, more satisfying lives by putting overall well-being to the forefront of business culture.

Because benefits are not one-size-fits-all, a company’s offers should be as diverse and unique as its personnel. Take the time to listen, poll, and discover what matters most to the people who shape the culture of your firm. Future personnel will most likely be interested in an offering if your current employees are.
