Taking Internal Decisions Is The First Step In Reducing The Cost Of Cancer Benefits.

The most crucial source of information for choosing benefits is direct expenses, according to the CancerCare Employer Market Survey Findings Report (98 percent).

Employers perform best in groups when making decisions about benefits. According to the Gallaher Research & Insights, CancerCare Employer Market Survey Findings Report, health benefits directors (58 percent), vice presidents of human resources (48 percent), and benefits consultants are the three stakeholders with the most impact (46 percent ). In general, internal stakeholders are more powerful than external ones.

Cost is another crucial element. According to research, the most crucial source of information for decision-makers when it comes to benefits is direct expenses (98 percent ). When deciding on health benefits, employers’ organizational health care expenditures have a greater influence (94 percent) than all other considerations combined, including employee costs and concerns. Benefit consultant recommendations rank as the second-most important aspect (74 percent ). Employee population health data (66%) and company best practices (60%) round out the list of the top five most crucial considerations when choosing benefits (50 percent ).

The treatment of cancer is examined separately in the study. Only 10% of those polled claimed to carve out cancer care benefits from the general benefits package, despite the majority of respondents (70%) claiming that their cancer benefits coverage is comparable to that of other peer companies. One hundred percent of those that carve out cancer benefits believe that treatment navigation services are the most often provided benefit. Second opinion services and Centers of Excellence are tied for second place with 60% each.

Respondents are overwhelmingly pleased (82 percent) with the functionality their vendor provides when using pharmacy benefits management (PBM). Additionally, respondents believe that utilization management (UM) methods like step therapy (81 percent), specialty pharmacies’ preferred drug lists (71 percent), and formulary tiers can be very useful in reducing employee costs (69 percent ).

About 28% of individuals who make such UM decisions do so alone and with greater initiative. More than 50% turn to advisors for advice, but they need more information to support their suggested UM tools.
