Why Employee Retention Tactics Are More Important Than Ever.

It’s not necessary to be complicated or elaborate to express gratitude and appreciation.

For all of us, the past few years have been an ongoing improvisation. As we react to the shifting conditions in the world around us, especially as they affect our personal and professional lives, we’ve been in a nearly constant process of adjustment. Many people were inspired by all that change to reevaluate their beliefs about how work fits into (or doesn’t fit into) our daily lives.

The phrase “Great Resignation” has been coined to describe the record number of employees leaving their jobs; the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that 47.8 million people will do so in 2021.

U.S. workers are now going back to work as the pandemic becomes less severe and evidence point to the nation edging closer to a recession. For instance, a recent story from CNBC stated that 26% of workers who left their employment in the last two years have changed their minds and are now returning to the workforce.

However, it’s doubtful that returning workers will come in with the same expectations as they did before the pandemic so drastically changed our experiences and beliefs. That raises a crucial query for employers: How do they manage the shifting expectations and perspectives to bring in fresh talent and keep your current team?

Companies showed their ability to be quick and adaptable in the midst of the pandemic, successfully transitioning to a primarily remote workforce — virtually overnight — and carrying on with business. It’s time to use that same agility to rethink employee loyalty in the face of a fiercely competitive labor market.

For years, businesses have used loyalty programs to draw in and keep customers. The most effective employ tactics intended to let clients realize that they are acknowledged, appreciated, and respected for their loyalty and, furthermore, that their devotion will be rewarded. The same fundamental principles can be used to increase and sustain employee loyalty through workforce engagement.

Great, that’s all right. What steps should we take to accomplish that? Start by deciding how you would like to be rewarded for your continued employment with a company.

Start by expressing gratitude and recognition.

The good news is that businesses can give employees both of these concepts on a daily basis, which forms the basis of all effective loyalty campaigns.

The average person spends 90,000 hours working, or roughly one-third to one-quarter of their lives, according to recent studies. Employees need to believe that their contributions matter given the magnitude of that commitment.

It’s not necessary to be complicated or elaborate to express gratitude and appreciation. In actuality, small actions have a big impact. Create an internal monthly award program to honor an individual or team for exceptional achievement. Give out gift cards to coffee shops in exchange for putting in more time on a project or working on the weekend. To help employees feel valued and have their effort seen, a framework that encourages management to acknowledge individual contributions should be established.

Provide rewards and incentives.

Consumer loyalty programs provide a century’s worth of proof that rewards and incentives encourage loyalty. People want to be recognized and rewarded for their work and conduct – it’s human nature — as an Incentive Research Foundation research found, “well built incentive programs can enhance performance by as much as 44%.”

Tiered strategies (e.g., entry-level membership followed by earned elite tiers) are used in traditional loyalty strategy programs to generate consumer engagement, spend, and/or investment. The same principle may excite and drive workers, and a tiered system may be a great method to foster loyalty inside your company.

There are many different configurations for an employee incentive or incentives structure. Managers may establish reward criteria that honor accomplishments above and beyond expectations and offer incentives to individuals who do better than expected. Rewards could come in the shape of an extra pay check or paid time off. By recognizing individual accomplishments, you can inspire workers to produce their best work. You foster an environment of appreciation that supports everyone’s success. a win-win situation.

Encouragement of continued education is another means of praising and rewarding staff. Recognize and reward the employee’s investment, whether it’s in a LinkedIn learning course, an advanced degree, or a specific certification. The information and insights gathered will be useful to your company.

Display your loyalty

Loyalty is reciprocal. The most devoted workers are those whose employers also show loyalty. One of your most significant long-term investments that will produce both tangible and intangible rewards over time is your trust in the judgment and integrity of your personnel.

The work of your team can be trusted. Allowing them to take on new tasks will help you avoid micromanaging them. Let them organize their days whichever they think would lead to the maximum productivity. When an employee is coping with a family emergency, a physical condition, a mental health issue, or other difficulties, extend your understanding and grace. Recognize that personal duties might sometimes conflict with work obligations, and that life situations can occasionally affect their workdays.

Fostering internal loyalty is one of the key ways you can set yourself apart from other businesses; employee-focused loyalty tactics can provide you a noticeable and long-lasting edge in attracting and retaining top personnel. Your employees will serve as your greatest brand advocates if you are the employer you’d want to work for.
